Who We Are

Community Members

Primarily, we are a community of Christians that are somehow connected to the North Country of New York and the St. Lawrence Seaway Valley. Content on this site is contributed by all sorts of community members, and we invite you to contribute as well!

Administrators

“Yeah, all right, but the community members don’t run this thing. Someone must actually run something huge like this, and I don’t believe you when you tell me it’s run completely on its own by users!” Okay, it is true that there are a couple administrators who maintain the structure of the site, and have the privileges of an editor, but they try very hard not to edit. Here are their biographies so they don’t seem so mysterious:

Julie Mason Shelmidine (http://nnyphishnet.net/) is our newest volunteer.  She goes to Smithville Baptist Church and is a real networker in the Watertown area.  She is our Events Editor.  You can read how she came to be part of our team here.  Despite what she says about herself she is a great writer and pretty good with the techie stuff.  Send your churche’s events to her at jam07@frontiernet.net

Pat Wilbur (http://pdub.net) has been in the North Country since 2004 and has attended a few different churches in the area, but has remained at his current church since around 2007 or 2008. He subscribes to the Lausanne Covenant. Prior to coming to the North Country, while new to the faith, Pat performed some “church hopping” at home. It was at this time that God burdened his heart for the disunity that he observed in the Church and, over time, it became apparent that a number of his passions and technical gifts, as they matured, were suitable for aiding in electronic Church networking. Pat very much believes in a single Truth and maintains convictions toward all believers belonging to a specific local church family, but he values members of other denominational affiliations through a common set of core beliefs. Through NorthernChristian.org, he does not aim to create artificial institutional partnerships or dissolve denominational identities; rather, he wishes to simply “pave the roadways” that connect regional churches, to allow natural networking to occur through improved communication channels, in order to help build the Kingdom and have our unity in Christ be a witness to non-believers.

Pat Noble has been in the North Country since 1980 and has attended the same church since 1988.  Her statement of faith is the Lausanne Covenant.  Pat has been the “news sleuth” for the Missions Catalyst since 2004. Her passion for God’s glory among every tribe and nation and tongue began when she read some of the Perspectives materials left at her church.  In addition to churning out the news for the Missions Catalyst, she is working to create a SWARM (Serving World A Regional Mobilizers) in Northern New York utilizing the NorthernChristian.org website. Her greatest passion is to see small churches catch the vision for church planting among World A peoples. In September of 2009 she met Pat Wilbur and found that God had put on his heart much of the same things, especially about bringing churches together. Pat and Pat would like to thank Jemila Saleh for the many (MANY!) cups of Eritrean coffee served in her wonderful home while they worked together on this website.  God is GOOD!
